Beasts

I'm writing this so that someone knows what I've done. There are beasts outside. And given what we have become, there are beasts inside as well. I can't make the beasts go away. I can't prevent us from descending into something worse than we have already. But I can make it stop. After I post this message with what little is left of my phone's battery, I'm going to go open the warehouse door. This evil at least will go no further.

Stacy, I love you always...

Fire

I woke up this morning to the smell of meat cooking. I'd hidden last night in the supply closet near the bathrooms and the smell was coming from the warehouse but taking the direct route would take me too close to the Cantina so I worked my way down to the far side so I could come into the entrance to the warehouse opposite the Cantina. I cracked the door open and seeing it was clear crawled into the warehouse. There in the middle there were four guys around a fire built up from broken shipping pallets. And roasting on the fire... were pieces of Curt. As much as the smell of something resembling food was making me hungry, I'm not that hungry... yet. I slipped back out the way I came.

Hunting

I've spent most of the day hungry. I haven't had anything to eat since Thursday. I ran out of cigarettes yesterday. And from what I can tell, I'm not really alone there. There may be some food left in the Cantina but there's a group of guys there keeping everyone else out. I found two pieces of candy on the floor near my candy bowl that had been kicked under a desk. Fortunately I've been able to sneak into a bathroom now and then for some water but I'm not comfortable any more in a room with only one way out. I found a hockey stick in Dave's office upstairs and have taken to carrying it around just in case I need it. I'm afraid I'll need it soon.

Hiding

I didn't find any food last night, at least not any that wasn't being fought over or guarded and no one seems to be in a sharing mood. I finally gave up and found a place to hide and sleep. That old car in the warehouse. I woke up over and over afraid someone was going to see me in the car and didn't dare use the phone for fear that someone would see the light. I've got to find some food and a new hiding place today. The problem is that everyone else is probably looking for food too.

Waiting

We had all gathered in the lobby waiting for the cops to show up. One of the beasts darted from cover to cover, never granting us a good look at it. Sergey had told them that there was some sort of wild animal that had killed one of the employees. We had expected from that cops and animal control and ambulances and who knows what else. What showed up was a single patrol car. The cops were dead seconds after they stepped out of the car. We waited for hours expecting some sort of follow up but there's been nothing. Are these things attacking all over and that's why there's been no more cops? Sergey tried calling 911 again and got a busy signal. I've gone looking for food.

Two

I'm so tired. I was up most of the night because after Andy died the arguments started all over again. And they went pretty much all night. And then they got physical. Sergey said he'd had enough and was calling the cops. If some die to the beasts, so be it. As long as it gets us out of here. He started digging into his pocket when Curt slugged him and Sergey went down. Curt started reaching for a chair to beat Sergey with when Sergey kicked out and snapped Curt's knee like a green branch and Curt went down hard. Sergey rolled and drove his elbow into Curt's throat and something broke. It's not just beasts killing us now, it's ourselves as well. And Sergey's called the cops.

Dead

He's dead. He's dead and I didn't stop him. It was Andy's idea but I should have stopped him. He figured that since the beast went up front whenever someone went in the lobby, that he could hurry out the back door of the warehouse to his car if someone distracted the beast to get it up front. So I volunteered. I should have stopped him. I should have said it was a bad idea. It was working... I went in the lobby by the door and there was the beast. Quentin and Mikhail relayed word to Andy. He ran out towards his car but he didn't make it. We didn't know that the beast wasn't alone. There's at least two of them out there.
